Short version: your keystrokes never leave your Mac. No Mouse Mode goes online for just two things: activating your license key and checking for updates.
The app
No Mouse Mode has no accounts, no analytics, no ads and no tracking. It never records, stores or sends what you type.
Why it asks for Accessibility and Input Monitoring access. macOS requires these permissions for any app that moves the cursor or reacts to keys pressed in other apps. No Mouse Mode uses them to recognise the keys it uses (for example W, A, S, D, Space and the arrow keys) and turn them into cursor movement, clicks and scrolling, and, when you use click labels, type to click or scroll areas, to find the buttons, links, text and scrollable areas in the front window so it can label them. Key presses are handled in memory and then forgotten. They are never logged, saved or sent anywhere.
While No Mouse Mode is off, the app only listens for its shortcuts (Cmd+Shift+M, Cmd+Shift+Space, Cmd+Shift+/ and Cmd+Shift+J by default, or whatever you set) and, if you've turned on hold-to-use, for the key you chose. After one of these, it reads the keys you type to pick a label or a match, then stops.
Reading text on the screen (optional, off by default). If you turn on Also read text on the screen in Settings → Clicking, No Mouse Mode takes a picture of the front window each time you open click labels or type to click, finds the words in it with Apple's text recognition on your Mac, and then throws the picture away. Nothing it sees is saved or sent anywhere. macOS calls this permission Screen Recording; you can switch it off again at any time in System Settings.
Your settings, such as key bindings, speeds, saved spots and your list of apps where it switches off, and your license details are saved on your Mac. Deleting the app and its preferences removes them.
When the app goes online
License activation and checks. When you enter your license key, and occasionally afterwards to confirm it's still valid, the app sends the key and an anonymous ID for your Mac to our licensing server (hosted on Supabase). The Mac ID is a scrambled (hashed) value made from your Mac's hardware ID; it can't be turned back into the hardware ID and contains nothing personal. Our server checks the key with Dodo Payments, the store that issued it (or Gumroad, for version-1 purchases), and keeps a record of which Macs a key is active on: a scrambled copy of the key, the anonymous Mac ID and the purchase email the store returns. We use this only to enforce the license, let you move it to another Mac and help you with support. If you choose Deactivate, that Mac's record is removed.
Update checks. The app uses Sparkle to check for new versions. It downloads an update feed from nomousemode.com, and like any web request this includes your IP address and the app and macOS version. Updates are downloaded from the same site.
Nothing else is sent. If you're offline, the app keeps working with the license it already activated.
Buying the app
Purchases are handled by Dodo Payments, our merchant of record. Dodo processes your payment, handles tax and receipts, and issues your license key, which is shown on the page after checkout and sent to you by email. We receive the order details Dodo provides to sellers (such as your name, email address and what you bought) and use them only to provide the app, your license and support. Card details are handled by Dodo and its payment processors and are never shared with us. Dodo Payments' privacy policy applies to the checkout.
Version-1 purchases were made on Gumroad, which holds those order details under its own privacy policy.
This website
This site uses no cookies, analytics or ad trackers of its own, and its fonts are served from this site itself, not from a third-party font service. A few third parties are involved in serving it:
- Cloudflare hosts the site and, like any web host, processes standard request information (such as your IP address and browser type) to deliver pages and protect against abuse.
- Supabase hosts our licensing server. After checkout, the thank-you page asks it for your license key using the payment ID from Dodo Payments, so it can show you the key right away. Like any web request, this includes your IP address. We use it only to show you your key.
The interactive demos on the home page, including the labels you can put on the page itself, run entirely in your browser. The keys you press while trying them are not sent anywhere.
If you email us, we use your address and message only to reply to you. We don't add you to mailing lists or share your email.
Children
No Mouse Mode isn't directed at children and doesn't knowingly collect information from anyone beyond what's described above.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
